The Grinch Figurative Language Examples


Onomatopoeia- Screeching of the brakes. Get ready for the boom!

Metaphor- The christmas music is a triumphal tune

Simile- couldn’t detect any.

Rhyme- everything

Personification- Is your freezer running?, where are you christmas?

Repetition- You’re the the the the Grinch. Maybe, maybe, just maybe. Where are you Christmas (x2)

Hyperbole- A billion kilometers. I hate Christmas! A lifetime supply of happiness.

Alliteration- Buckle for your uncle. bubbalicious, bubby pie, etc. (whos singing), the whippa winds whipped,

Assonance- Tight, right. his heart was two sizes too small.

Imagery- One little green thing.

Understatement: Mr. Grinch, you’re looking a little green today.

Allusion: don’t be such a Grinch.

I wasn’t in class for the second half of the movie… I was in a chess tournament. I wasn’t able to finish the movie and find the rest of the movie; therefore, find the rest of figurative language use.
